Jon
Michael Ogletree is a true lover of music. At an early age, Jon Michael
began climbing up on the piano bench in his living room and sounding
out chords. His love of music continued to grow when he was enrolled in
the Samford University Music Preparatory program. He continued his
lessons there from the age of four until the age of thirteen.
Some
might suggest that this is not a unique ability or characteristic.
There are many lovers of music who create beautiful music in the world
today. However, what makes Jon Michael's music a special gift is the
fact that Jon Michael is a dwarf. While he stands only three feet eight
inches tall, his personality and his music easily fill a room.
Jon
Michael's music has been described as easy listening with a hint of
jazz. He has won multiple awards and had the privilege of appearing at
Governor Bob Riley's Christmas party this past year, as well as playing
private parties for Chick-fil-A founder Truett Cathy. He can currently
be heard at Leonardo's Italian Restaurant in Birmingham, AL on Saturday
evenings and at Birmingham Country Club on Thursday evenings. Jon
Michael also plays at Lakecrest Presbyterian Church every Sunday
morning. www.lcpca.org
Jon
Michael recently graduated from Samford University in Birmingham,
Alabama with a Master's degree in Accounting. He is working as a staff
accountant full time, while maintaining a full schedule playing around
town as well.
In December 2007, Jon
Michael competed and won the title of VSA of Alabama's Young Soloist of
2008. He will compete again this year for the 2009 title, in hopes to
win the National title, where the winner plays in Washington D.C. at
the Kennedy Center. More information about VSA can be found at www.vsarts.org
His
latest CD, As Requested, features, for the first time, all cover songs.
These are the songs that so many people enjoy hearing him play at
Leonardo’s or Birmingham Country Club. The CD, which was released
in November 2007, features mainly “jazz” piano music, yet
it keeps the same “easy-listening” feel as well. He is
currently working on his fifth project, which will contain Lullabies.
This CD will be available Summer 2010.
